The Good Nonsense #14
I googled “autumnal greetings” to see if there was any special Fall way to say hello and I was bombarded will millions of generic, badly written greeting cards. I’ll now go back and be the person I wish I’d been before the unhelpful googling and say:
Hello! Autumnal greetings to you!
Despite how much I trash talked Spirit Week in the last edition, I actually loved finding outfits for my Very Adorable PreK student. Alas, DO NOT BE DECEIVED, the gods of Spirit Week are not mocked! I sowed trash talk, and I reaped a plague that kept me and said student home for most of the week, carefully selected outfits unworn. I did manage to get a few photos before we succumbed, as promised.
Good Things
🎤 John Mulaney is one of our favorite comedians. His jokes have begun to work their way into our family vernacular, the way that lines from The Andy Griffith Show permeated my childhood. I was sad for him when the details of his divorce and drug addiction came out earlier this year. I’ve watched this interview he did with Seth Meyers multiple times. It remains to be seen whether John will make healthier choices moving forward, but it’s a sweet thing to see unabashed affection in male friendship. More of that, please.
📓 I’m a journaler from way back, and I’ve tried a lot of different styles. I like a soft cover, leather preferred. Smooth paper. (Some journals want to get fancy with their paper and it goops up your good pen. No thank you.) Unlined. If I had beautiful or even relatively neat handwriting I might prefer lined pages, but my handwriting is messy and unpredictable. It only looks worse on lined paper. These have been the consistent favorite for several years.
Good Entertainment
🥳 ⛳️ A non-internet rec! We were still suffering with the Spirit Week Plague when my birthday came around last month, so Trevor planned a belated celebration a couple of weeks later. We went mini golfing with six other adults and zero children. I chose the activity, and even I was surprised at how much fun it was. Adult-only mini golf is where it’s at. 10/10.
🎧 My reward for finishing this letter before my lunch break is getting to listen to The Popcast’s Bachelorette Contestant Preview episode. A hilarious, impeccably researched good time.
✅ Early this year Seth Meyer’s began a segment he calls “Corrections,” in which he responds to all of the petty ways YouTube commenters corrected him throughout the previous week. I love all of them.

Alrighty gang, I’m off to scrounge some leftovers. I’ll be back with more nonsense next month. In the mean time, tell me something that’s been fun for you lately.
Remember, God is out for your joy.
Love you. Bye.
