Last time we were here together I was recovering from the first week of school. Well, friend, there’s been some developments.
On the bright side, we have moved past the initial shock of school. The four year old loves his teacher and his classmates and is very sobered by the fact that they have time outs at school JUST LIKE AT HOME, MOM.
But alas, next week is the week I’ve heard horror stories about from elementary moms for years. S P I R I T W E E K.
This means the kids get to dress up according to a different theme every day! Amazing! Four year olds in cheeseburger costumes for eight hours! So easy to put together and SO PRACTICAL! I’m thrilled.
Okay, for real, we are going for minimum maintenance, maximum adorableness, and it is even going to be a little bit fun I think. Pictures forthcoming, I have no doubt.
ANYWAYS. Let’s get to the goods.
Good Things
👕 One of my least favorite chores is sorting through and switching out kids clothes. They just keep getting bigger, and now that there’s a baby in the house again having all the sizes in a single tote is even more annoying. So I ordered these packing cubes. Now everything is still in one large Rubbermaid tote, but it’s super easy to grab the size I need without making a mess of all the other sizes.
🍴 Okay, another kid thing, this flatware set. Regular-sized utensils in sturdy, dishwasher safe, less dangerous plastic. Maybe your kids actually use their forks to eat, but if they’re anything like the children in this house they much prefer using them as drum sticks and hair brushes. Plastic forks save eyeballs and sanity.
Good Entertainment
👗 🎩 I’ll forever find the dress up choices of the bonkersly rich and famous endlessly fascinating.
🎧🧁 I’m currently listening to the audio book The City Baker’s Guide To Country Living, and it’s delightful so far. There’s some small town romance in the background, but the real star of the show is the food writing. If you love to cook or eat or learn about food, you’ll enjoy this novel.
🏢📺 Only Murders In The Building is the story of two Boomers who’ve washed out of show business (Steven Martin and Martin Short) and their bored Gen Z neighbor (Selena Gomez) who share a love of true crime podcasts. When someone gets murdered in their building they team up to solve the crime and high jinks ensue. Funny, and surprisingly suspenseful. Streaming on Hulu.

That’s all from me folks. Would love to hear about what you’re reading and watching and laughing at (and any four year old friendly spirit week ideas!) in the comments!
Love you, bye.
Maybe this is too lame, but you could buy a pair of "spirit socks" that go with each theme. You get fun new socks out of the mix and a non fussy spirit outfit. But idk you might have to be a sock person to care.
