Hi! Hi hi hi. So good to be in your inbox again. I intended to be here last Friday as well, but I got distracted by this squish-faced sleeping expert.
Knox Alistair Cochrane was *finally* born on the evening of March 28th, and he was big mad about it. I was so excited I ate a steak dinner to celebrate. He’s calmed down considerably since that first hour of outrage, to our great relief. All in all shaping up to be very polite as far as newborns go.
Thanks to daycare and my amazing mother, I’ve spent most of the last two weeks in bed. It’s been a lovely time to recover and get acquainted with my new person, and also to watch some good TV and find the good internet things.

▶️ The first time I had a kid I started watching Good Mythical Morning from the very beginning,* and I’ve revisited old seasons after the birth of every subsequent child. There are a couple good reasons for this. First, the content is entertaining but requires zero mental or emotional energy. All my postpartum hormones rejoice. Second, episodes are usually 10-15 minutes in length, which is approximately how long it takes my babies to empty one boob. In the beginning when feeding sessions can be painful, it helps to know it’s just two episodes of GMM till we’re done.
*if you’re brand new to GMM, I recommend starting here.
👕 I’m a big fan of second hand kids clothes, but sometimes new is preferable, and Old Navy is my go to. I realize no one is out there not knowing that Old Navy exists, but maybe you didn’t know about their exceptional mark downs and clearance? If you time it right you can find everything you’re looking for in the $3-$5 range. Big win when all of a sudden it’s summer and the number of articles of clothing your kid fits into is zero.
🧊 Speaking of summer, this spherical ice mold has been sitting in the “saved for later” portion of my cart for months since Bri McKoy mentioned them. We don’t have an ice maker in our fridge but heck if I’m going to traverse my first Texas summer without cold drinks. I bit the $15 bullet and ordered me a set.
💅🏻 Last week someone asked me what my favorite nail polish was, and I never answered because newborns. But it’s Olive and June! Beautiful colors, easy application, and helpful IG tutorials to boot. Color wise, I tend toward either dark and bold or light neutrals, and I tend to hate pastels. Current favorite O&J shades are Hibiscus and HGC. Here’s a handy code for 20% off any of their nail systems.
The Good Instagrams
The suffering I’ve known has only made me more tender, tears and joy and odd sensitivities all more near the surface. I was grateful to see this experience so well articulated.
I didn’t see this post until after Easter, but what a gracious perspective. I think it’s very human (and not wrong) for us to focus on the power of Christ in His resurrection. We like to think of Jesus backlit, crushing the minions of fear and death as a huge John-Williams-esque score crescendos behind him. It’s a sweetness to be reminded that even in such a moment of power, he was clothed in humility, quiet enough that Mary didn’t hear him coming.

A Nehemiah generation 🔥
Honestly, don’t we all…
Okay friends, that’s all from me. I’ll be taking it easy around the house for a bit longer, so here’s what I need from you. Comment with:
1) The book you’re currently reading, whether you like or dislike it, and why
2) Your favorite funny folks on social media
NOTE:
If you’re reading this in your email inbox and you’re confused about where to comment, the speech bubble icon. At the top of the email it’ll be under the title and next to my name. You can also find it at the bottom.
Thanks for reading and sharing and being the best. See ya next Friday!
1.)Anne of green gables! Honestly it's right now I need familiar, relatable,u weighty (is that a word?) and happy things so this is where I've landed.
2.) I've pretty much been off social media but I found a "small" youtuber named olivia Kathryn and I'm not sure why but her level of angst and rambling is my favorite.
ALSO old navy is muy bueno. Their online sales are pretty sick too
Congratulations!!!
I just finished the nightingale, and while a heavy read, it was really good. I just started American Dirt and I think I’m going to like it.
I have never heard of GMM.. I may have to lose myself down that rabbit hole. 😬
